Manganese dioxide

Manganese dioxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula MnO2, appearing as a black amorphous powder or black orthorhombic crystals.

Manganese dioxide plays a key role in battery manufacturing, particularly in the production of dry cells such as carbon-zinc batteries and alkaline

batteries. This is because manganese dioxide has high electrochemical activity, enabling efficient electron transfer, thereby improving battery

efficiency and lifespan. Additionally, it is often used as a catalyst in chemical reactions or as a strong oxidizing agent in acidic solutions.

These properties make manganese dioxide an indispensable component in battery manufacturing.

In batteries, manganese dioxide is primarily used as a depolarizer. It helps reduce polarization during discharge, improving

battery discharge capacity, activity, and lifespan. Specifically, electrolytic manganese dioxide, compared to natural manganese dioxide,

offers advantages such as higher discharge capacity, stronger activity, smaller size, and longer lifespan.

Manganese dioxide batteries are characterized by good low-rate and medium-rate discharge performance, affordability, and safety, which

makes them competitive among conventional batteries. Additionally, lithium-manganese dioxide batteries are suitable for devices requiring high-current discharge or operation under low-temperature conditions.

Although their discharge voltage platform is lower than some other battery types, their discharge curve is flat and stable.
